Job Description

Duties: 

Assists the Geographical Information System Manager in maintaining the geographic information system by inserting new information, and updating existing information into the system using GPS, COGO, digitizing, graphic editing techniques, and alpha numeric data input. Assists users of the Geographic Information System in accessing the system and the data, and in producing maps and reports. Fills map requests and data requests related to these datasets. Trains users in the use of the web map applications use and open data site access. Keeps an accurate log of all data manipulations, insertions, and deletions. Refills toner and paper on plotters and printers. Performs other related work as required.

Working Conditions: 

Works in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.

Job Requirements

Education and Experience: 

Two years of college or technical training in Geography, Geographic Information Systems, Land Surveying, or related field. Six (6) months of experience using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) or equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Knowledge: 

Knowledge of GIS database design to allow editing GIS data without introducing errors. Knowledge of field survey techniques for collecting GPS and other primary source geographic information.

Skills: 

Expertise using ArcGIS Desktop and Enterprise for editing, mapping and data dissemination. Competence using Microsoft Office. Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively interact with internal staff, citizens, and other departmental staff in a courteous and friendly manner.

License and/or Certification: 

Must possess a valid state driver’s license and satisfactory motor vehicle record.

Mental & Physical: 

Ability to maintain regular, predictable and punctual attendance. Mental/visual insight required due to sustained periods of concentration, working under pressure of deadlines, and continued interruptions in concentration from staff requiring assistance. Ability to interpret and follow oral and written instructions. Analytical abilities and attention to detail are required to interpret data, recognize discrepancies contained in data, and correct or determine the cause of discrepancies. Limited amount of physical ability required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lb.) 5 - 10% of work time.

Additional Information: 

Selected applicant must pass a background
investigation and drug screen.
