Title: Development of a Web GIS Application for Calculating Livestock Populations in the U.S.
Abstract:
During a contagious animal disease outbreak, obtaining a quick estimation on the size of susceptible livestock population around an infected site can be crucial for animal health officials to develop and implement effective strategies to contain the disease. The livestock inventory data published by the USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service (USDA-NASS) can serve as a valuable data source. However, its original format is not configured to readily support such a task. In this study, a web GIS platform was developed to enable an easy exploration of livestock population in the United States. This web GIS platform is composed of a series of ArcGIS Dashboards, which support a map-based interactive visualization of county-level livestock population data derived from the recent USDA-NASS census and survey data. A web GIS application is also included to provide a quick estimation of livestock population around a defined proximity of a point of interest (e.g., a disease infected site). The easy access to the livestock population data and estimation tool supported by the web GIS platform can help animal health officials better comprehend the livestock distribution around an infected site and make timely decisions to fight an animal disease outbreak.

Title: Living Atlas: Live Feed Maps and Workflows for Disaster Response
Abstract: Learn how disaster response data can support natural hazard mitigation planning and impact assessment. Best practices for utilizing live feed layers in workflows will be presented, including combining them with other data sources to publish maps and apps. At the end of the session, we will share a collection of resources, tools, and examples you can use to build live feed services to support many map types and use cases.
