For evaluation purposes, acceptable qualifying experience for all positions must have been in a paid capacity unless noted otherwise in the minimum qualifications for the posted position.

Additionally, 30+ hours per week will be counted as full-time employment and will receive full credit for the amount of time employed.  A minimum of 15 through 29 work hours per week will be counted as part-time employment and will receive half credit for the amount of time employed.

Minimum Qualifications

 

EDUCATION:  

  • Bachelor's degree (or higher) in a Geography, GIS, Planning, Computer Science, Information Systems, Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math field.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Four (4) years of experience designing and/or implementing of Geographic Information Systems (GIS).  

EQUIVALENCY(IES):

  • High school diploma or GED plus eight (8) years of the required experience will meet the education and experience requirements.
  • An associate's degree in any field plus six (6) years of the required experience will meet the education and experience requirements.
  • A bachelor's degree (or higher) in a non-specified field plus six (6) years of the required experience will meet the education and experience requirements.
  • A bachelor's degree (or higher) in a non-specified field plus a valid GIS certification plus five (5) years of the required experience will meet the education and experience requirements.

OTHER REQUIREMENT(S):

  • Experience with one (1) or more of the following: JavaScript, Python, ArcPy, C#, Java, Visual Basic, and/or PowerShell.
  • Experience with one (1) or more of the following: SQL Server, Oracle, Standard Query Language (SQL), Structured Query Language (SQL), PL-SQL, Transact-SQL.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITY(IES):

  • Knowledge of spatial data and how it relates to other information systems.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Process design and automation skills.
  • Workflow design skills.
  • Strong relational database skills.
  • Ability to support system sustainability through maintaining metadata and documentation.
  • Ability to define solution objectives by analyzing user requirements, system features, and functionality.
  • Ability to analyze and develop solutions to database and information system problems.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with client department representatives, City of Dallas technical staff, other governmental agencies, vendors and consultants.

Police Department: experience with on-line or web-based analytical processing, Microsoft Office, SQL, Visual Basic, Python, Java, Crystal Reports and XML is desired. Must pass intensive background check and no felony or class A misdemeanor convictions.
Public Works/Infrastructure Management: experience with SQL, Visual Basic, Python, Java, and XML is a plus.
Sustainability Development and Construction: experience with Oracle database systems, C#, SQL, Python and web applications is a plus.
Water Utilities: experience with Oracle database systems, MOS, Visual Basic, SQL, Network administration, hardware acquisition/maintenance and web applications is a plus.
